Where lived experience becomes language.
Where ideas become frameworks.
Where frameworks become legacy.
At the empowerHER Legacy Institute for Entrepreneurship Excellence, we believe meaningful work does more than solve problems. It names what has gone unnamed. It challenges assumptions. It creates language for experiences people have lived but have not always known how to explain.
Research & Ideas is the intellectual home of the Institute — a space dedicated to original thought, emerging frameworks, interdisciplinary inquiry and the development of ideas that sit at the intersection of entrepreneurship, psychology, faith, human behavior and whole-person flourishing.
Some ideas begin as questions. Others begin as patterns we can no longer ignore. Here, we study both.
The work of empowerHER extends beyond traditional entrepreneurship education. We are interested in the forces that shape how people build, lead, decide, recover, create and move forward — particularly the internal experiences that conventional business education often leaves unexplored.
Our research and intellectual work examine questions such as:
What happens when strategy is sound, but the person executing it is overwhelmed?
How do trauma, identity, belief and nervous system patterns influence leadership and forward movement?
What makes success sustainable rather than merely achievable?
How do faith, psychology and human behavior intersect in the way people experience hope, purpose, growth and change?
These questions inform the frameworks, methodologies and emerging bodies of work developed through the Institute.
At the intersection of faith, psychology and the human body.
Theological Somatics™ is an original body of work founded by Kenya Young that explores healing through the integration of trauma science, nervous system regulation, spiritual formation and embodied faith.
As a branch of theological psychology, it examines a critical disconnect: a person can deeply believe something intellectually or spiritually while their body continues to brace against it.
Theological Somatics™ creates language and structure for understanding that experience — moving beyond what a person believes cognitively to explore how belief, fear, hope and healing are actually experienced in the nervous system and body.
Hope Anxiety™ — the fear response that can activate when something good is happening, about to happen or finally feels possible after repeated disappointment or loss — is the discipline's first fully developed framework.
Explore Theological Somatics™ →Research at empowerHER is not confined to a single discipline. Our work is intentionally interdisciplinary because human beings are.
Business performance cannot always be separated from emotional health. Leadership cannot always be separated from identity. Decision-making cannot always be separated from lived experience. Faith cannot always be separated from how the body has learned to survive. And sustainable success cannot be understood solely through revenue, productivity or achievement.
Our developing body of work explores these intersections — creating practical frameworks, original intellectual property and new language for experiences that deserve deeper examination.
“The work is still being written.”
Some of the most important ideas begin before there is an established category for them. That is why this space exists — to ask better questions, to develop language where language is missing, to build frameworks rigorous enough to be studied and practical enough to change lives and to contribute ideas that extend beyond a single program, business or generation.
Because legacy is not only what we build. It is what we discover, name and leave behind for others to build upon.
